Henry Asante Twum, director of communications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has revealed that the Black Stars will honor their late teammate Christian Atsu, who perished in the Turkey earthquake, during this month's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
Christian Atsu will be laid to rest on March 17, followed by the team's match against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium six days later.
Asante Twum says the opportunity will allow the players to recognize the former Chelsea player's services once more.
"All the Black Stars players are extremely saddened by Christian Atsu's passing, and the Black Stars will honor their late teammate Christian Atsu Twasam during our AFCON qualifying match against Angola," he told Original FM.
Atsu made his Black Stars debut in 2012 against Lesotho. In 64 matches with the national team, he contributed 19 goals.
He played a crucial role in the Black Stars' 2015 AFCON journey, which saw Ghana finish second after losing to Ivory Coast in penalty shootouts.
The former Newcastle player was named the tournament's best player and scored the tournament's best goal in the quarterfinals against Guinea.
