Netflix series Wednesday is experiencing significant changes for season two now that the strikes have ended.
The series, a spin-off of the Addams Family that focuses on the character previously portrayed by Lisa Loring and Christina Ricci, has become one of the streaming service's most successful titles since its release in November 2022.
A second season has been graciously commissioned, with the delightful news that Jenna Ortega will be reprising her role as the psychic teenager during her time at Nevermore Academy.
Nevertheless, the production of new episodes has been postponed due to recent Hollywood strikes, which have finally come to an end.
Scripts are currently being written, and Netflix is working diligently to resume production in April. There will be one significant distinction, though. According to Deadline, the filming location for the second season of the show has been moved from Romania to Ireland.
This change in location is expected to have a positive impact on tourism in Ireland, similar to the boost that Romania experienced after the success of the first season. It is widely understood that the change was necessitated by logistical challenges.
The Independent has reached out to Netflix for a comment.
Joining Ortega for season two are Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, reprising their roles as Morticia and Gomez Addams. Contracts for the other cast members are currently being finalized.
Wednesday, developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, had an impressive streaming record of 341.2 million hours within just one week of release, surpassing the previous record set by Stranger Things.
Unfortunately, the series faced a setback when one of the show's stars decided to leave before finishing their scenes. The Independent, in an article discussing the show's success, mentioned that despite Ortega's impressive lead performance, it cannot avoid certain elements that make it reminiscent of a Gen-Z version of the Addams Family with a touch of Riverdale.
Ortega has an impressive resume that includes working on Ti West's horror film X, as well as the fifth and sixth Scream films. She is also involved in the highly anticipated Beetlejuice 2, where she reunites with Wednesday producer Tim Burton.
In addition to the original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara, Beetlejuice 2 will also feature in the cast. This highly anticipated sequel is a follow-up to Burton's 1988 horror comedy. The release date of the film has been scheduled for 6 September 2024.
The anticipated release for Wednesday season two is projected to be in the latter part of 2024 or the early months of 2025.
